Konnichiwa!
As you may know, JCC is turning 10 in 2019. Since its establishment in 2009, JCC has grown to become a place where Singaporeans and guests visiting from the region can come to learn more about Japan and Japanese culture. For our tenth anniversary, we will be celebrating with a variety of events that will take place throughout the year.
This January, JCC10 officially kicked off with the Japanese Film Festival 2019! This year, JCC worked closely with the Singapore Film Society and Japan Foundation to organise a programme comprising of over 30 films that audiences can watch with friends and family. The opening reception was a star-studded event that attracted filmmakers and film-lovers alike and we even had the honour of hosting two well-known directors from Japan - Wishing Chong, highly-lauded playwright and director of 'Yakiniku Dragon'; and Shinichirou Ueda, up-and-coming director of the sleeper hit 'One Cut of the Dead'.
January also saw the opening of an exclusive exhibition of glassware and art from Toyama Prefecture. Delicate yet piercing, these exceptional art pieces caught the eye of many guests, and the artists were even invited to speak about the history of Toyama glassware at Nanyang Technological University. JCC also held a welcome back reception for the youths that participated in the SSEAYP programme, and performed the Tokyo Gorin Ondo at Tampines GRC's One Community Fiesta. It was heartening to see such enthusiastic response from the public to these activities; it strengthened our resolve to put on more exciting events for everyone to enjoy!
February is shaping up to be an insightful month, as JCC will be hosting the TAMU (Talk About Muslim Series) Programme, a Japan Foundation initiative that will see participants sharing their experience in Japan. A JNTO representative will also introduce information that our Muslim friends can use to travel around Japan in preparation for the 2020 Olympics. We will also begin preparing very soon for the Sakura Matsuri at Gardens By The Bay, where you will be able to enjoy Japanese-related activities and view real cherry blossom trees right here in Singapore.
To keep up to date with the activities that we will have as part of JCC10, do join us as a Friend of JCC and like us on our Facebook page! We look forward to seeing you soon at JCC!
