When traditional Japanese art are combined, the outcome sees an awe-inspiring masterpiece, done by the brilliant Mr.Naoki Takenouchi.
Mr Takenouchi from Kagoshima, Japan is a Washi Mokuhanga artist. His expertise lies in creating enormous hanging expressions with Washi (traditional Japanese paper) and Mokuhanga (traditional Japanese woodblock painting), keeping in mind that the structures must be in harmony with the surrounding space. |
With vast experience since 1989, Mr Takenouchi has had private exhibits at galleries and museums in Tokyo, Niigata, his hometown Kagoshima as well as New York. His intricate designs are even sources of inspiration for fashion designers from Tokyo to Paris, where collaborations are often requested by them.
On Tuesday, 27th October, an opening ceremony for Mr Takenouchi’s exhibition was held at JCC where guests had the first hand experience of viewing the masterpieces. Over the next 12 days of the exhibitions, students from various educational institutions such as Jurong Secondary School, Temasek Polytechnic and National University of Singapore made their way to JCC in the hopes of interacting with the artist himself.
Being a part-time lecturer as well, for the Department of Construction at the Kagoshima University, Mr Takenouchi made external school visits to spread the word of his artistry. His ultimate aim – ‘To inspire new creativity and innovation, as well as promoting the inheritance of traditional arts and crafts throughout the world, in this ever-changing modern society.’. |
