Children and parents were treated to a lively and hilarious Kamishibai (紙芝居), a performance on traditional Japanese Paper Drama by Nomarin on Sunday, 29 November. Entitled STORY TIME: Smile on Everyone's Face! - It is an annual event co-organised by the Embassy of Japan in Singapore – Japan Creative Centre (JCC), The Japanese Association Singapore, together with the collaboration of the National Library Board (NLB).
Two sessions of Kamishibai performances were conducted this year at Clementi Public Library and Bukit Batok Public Library. With a whelming response, enthusiastic audiences had the opportunity to enjoy Kamishibai in English, as well as to participate in Japanese sing-along sessions during the performances. |
Mr Shigeyuki Noma, better known by his stage name Nomarin, is a retired Japanese primary school teacher, who has been performing Kamishibai 200 to 250 times annually in both Japan and overseas. As of 20 November this year, he has accumulated a total of 3,600 performances ever since he first started Kamishibai.
On 28th November 2015, His Excellency Haruhisa Takeuchi, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore conferred the Japanese Ambassador's Commendation Award to Mr. Shigeyuki Noma. This commendation is presented to Mr. Shigeyuki Noma for his significant contributions toward promotion of the cultural exchange between Japan and Singapore for past 15 years through his performances of traditional Japanese Paper Drama (Kamishibai).
