Co-organised with the Nippon Budōkan, an exclusive lecture and close-up demonstration of 12 different types of Budō (martial arts) was held at JCC on 28 November. JCC Director Ms Kawabe Akiko and Head of Budo Delegation Mr Kawabata Tatsuo welcomed guests into the world of Budō, whereby practitioners develop not only technical martial skills, but also the mind, character, morality and a respectful and courteous demeanour. Mr Onda Koji, Kendo Hanshi 8-dan and Chief Kendo Lecturer in the House of Representatives also gave a lecture, explaining lessons, concepts and principles learnt from Budo.
This was followed by a series of dynamic demonstrations by 30 athletes of 12 types of Budō -- Kyudo, Kendo, Hokushin Itto-ryu Kenjutsu, Naginata, Jukendo, Hozoin-ryu Takada-ha Sojutsu, Okinawa Goju-ryu Bujutsu, Shorinji Kempo, Aikido, Sumo, Judo, and Karatedo. Guests had the rare opportunity to ask the athletes any questions regarding the different Budō. We hope that this event has inspired people who are also practicing a Budō sport or are interested in trying it out!
