Director's Message

Konnichiwa!

I am glad to begin this message with the good news that JCC has now re-opened to the public! Our first exhibition, “The Beauty of Ise Shima Akoya Pearl ~ The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2020 Singapore Edition ~”, is running now till 19 December, so we hope that our Friends of JCC will come back to experience the charms of Mie Prefecture at our premises – in a safe manner of course!

The Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020 will also finally make a comeback this year-end. The format of this year’s festival will be slightly different than usual, encompassing both physical screenings in theatres and online screenings audiences can access from home. Film is a great medium through which Japanese culture and trends can be shown, so I hope that many of you will enjoy exploring Japan through the great line-up of films at the Festival once it opens on 10 December.

The first two of the Kizuna Story series are also out now! Our first interview with educator Mr. Yuichirou Kubo garnered quite a lot of interest, and we are working now on our next story with Ms. Reiko Kasai, a Managing Director at Lighting Planners Associates. We hope that many will be inspired by their continuous work to strengthen ties between our countries in their respective fields.

Despite having our premises closed to the public for much of this year, we still received strong support from our partners and Friends of JCC online. Our partners collaborated with us and appeared in videos, and shared various information with us. We were very glad to see our Friends of JCC interacting with our posts on our social media accounts and offering many suggestions for ways we can connect even without needing to meet physically. I would like to thank all the partners and our Friends of JCC for their strong support throughout the past year and ask for your continued partnership in the coming year!

For more details of our re-opening and our upcoming events, do check out our website, Facebook page, and our Instagram. Follow the Embassy of Japan’s Facebook page as well for more news and cultural articles about Japan.

We wish everyone a happy holiday season ahead!
