Director's Message

Season’s Greetings!

As the year draws to a close, Singapore is enveloped in a joyful and festive mood. Of course, this infectious mood has been injected into JCC too, especially as we sit at the tip of Orchard Road which is now covered in dazzling Disney Christmas lights and decorations sponsored by Hitachi.

Here at JCC, an array of intriguing programmes will be presented to everyone, such as the return of Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135’s Christmas workshop, another engaging session of Let’s Talk About Japan and an introduction to sake. Moreover, our Year-End Special JCC Cinema will feature a crossover between the NHK World Japan documentary “Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki” and Akita Tourism. During this December, we hope that there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Looking back to November, JCC presented a solo exhibition by Dr Iskandar Jalil, together with Mulan Gallery. It not only showcased the Master Potter’s signature vessels which embody diverse influences from Asia and Japan, it also commemorated the strong ties between Singapore and Japan. Hence, it was extremely apt for this exhibition to have been held in conjunction with the 33rd ASEAN Summit 2018, as well as the 45th Anniversary Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation. Our new Ambassador H.E. Jun Yamazaki also arrived on time to join the exhibition’s Opening Reception. I believe that this marked a wonderful and symbolic beginning of many more meaningful events to come.

While everyone takes the time to reflect on 2018, I hope that our JCC events have also left behind wonderful memories for you. We are already in the midst of planning many more delightful events for 2019, especially since JCC will be celebrating its 10th anniversary then.
