15 finalists from the Secondary School, Junior College (JC) and Open categories wowed the audience at the SJ60 Japanese Speech Contest 2026, which took place at the The Japanese Association, Singapore on Sunday, 12 July 2026.

The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Loh Khum Yean, Chairman for the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Board, who completed his undergraduate studies in Japan. He delivered an inspirational speech, congratulating the finalists and highlighting the importance of learning Japanese as a gateway to broader cultural understanding.

After much deliberation from the judging panel, 3 winners from each category were selected. The top winners of the JC and Open category each received a return ticket to Japan. The top winner of the Open category was also entitled to join the programme organised by the Japan Overseas Enterprises Association, and the JC category winners were entitled to join the homestay programme organised by the Hokkaido Singapore Friendship Association. Many other attractive prizes were awarded to the winners, courtesy of the generous sponsors and supporters.

When asked to give a message of encouragement to those thinking of joining the Speech Contest next year, the winners had this to say: 「自信を持って頑張ってください!」
