Discovering Kyoto in Singapore

JCC held a special Kyoto promotional event on 1 July in partnership with Kyoto City Tourism Association (DMO Kyoto Visit Kyoto) and Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau. Guests were transported to the heart of Kyoto City through truly immersive experiences: a Zen meditation session (Zazen) led by Head Priest Toda Seizan and Monk Toda Souzen from Daijin Sub-temple of Daitoku-ji Temple, and an elegant performance by a real Maiko and Geiko (traditional female performing artists and hosts of Kyoto). Guests experienced the spirit, beauty, and refinement that have shaped Kyoto for centuries, and also had the opportunity to enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine and sake. Mr Hotta Toru, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan and a Kyoto alumnus, shared about discovering the city’s remarkable blend of cultural depth and quiet innovation aspects. DMO Kyoto, while touching on the challenge of overtourism, highlighted that overseas visitors can enjoy Kyoto in harmonious ways in which the local residents can welcome tourism.
