15 finalists from the Secondary School, Junior College and Open categories wowed the audience at the Japanese Speech Contest 2025, which took place at the The Japanese Association, Singapore on Sunday, 13 July 2025.

The event was graced by Guest of Honour Mr Chew Hock Yong, Chairman of Workforce Singapore, who undertook his undergraduate study in Japan. After much thought and deliberation from the judging panel, 3 winners from each category were selected. In particular, the Open category, celebrating its 56th year as the Ambassador’s Cup, saw Ambassador Ishikawa Hiroshi personally present the championship trophy to the winner.

Top winners of the JC and Open category each also received a return ticket to Japan and the winners of the JC category were entitled to join the homestay programme organised by the Hokkaido Singapore Friendship Association. Many other attractive prizes were awarded to the winners, courtesy of the generous sponsors and supporters.

The talents of Singaporean Japanese language learners never cease to amaze the organisers. If you are studying Japanese now, why not challenge yourself in next year’s Japanese Speech Contest?
