Care Technologies for Older Adults in Super-Aged Japan: The Frontiers of Robotics and AI

The evening of 28 July 2025 saw lively engagement from the audience thanks to the sharing of Professor Shibata Tomohiro from the Kyushu Institute of Technology in his lecture titled “Care Technologies for Older Adults in Super-Aged Japan: The Frontiers of Robotics and AI”.

Professor Shibata gave the audience an overview of the challenges of super-aged Japan, and its national initiatives he has been involved in that alleviates the difficulties through promoting the application of robotic devices.

The audience were given a chance to watch the demonstration of an assistive suit that helps to reduce chronic back pain/injury due to transferring patients, as well as a robot known as “Hug” designed for moving patients between seated positions and maintain a standing position in restrooms and dressing areas.
