He performed two pieces of calligraphy, one was a recreation of his work that is currently part of the exhibition, and another was a poem by Masaoka Shiki , a famous Japanese poet from Meiji-era, written in a combination of Chinese characters and Japanese hiragana.

The Opening Ceremony of “Musubi” (結) – Japanese Calligraphy Exhibition ~ Forging new bonds and inspiring connections through ink ~ was held at JCC on 18 July 2025. JCC Director Ms Kawabe Akiko and Ms Hiraga Keiko from KEIBOKU Calligraphy School welcomed the guests with their speeches. Both expressed their pleasure of sharing the charms of Japanese calligraphy with Singaporean friends through the exhibition.

This was followed by a calligraphy performance by Mr Watanabe Taiki, who started learning calligraphy when he was 7 years old. After which, the guests were invited to an exhibition tour by Professor Toshimori Yoshiki and Professor Yamashita Keimei. The exhibition features works of various styles, including Kanji, Kana, Tenkoku (seal carving) and pen calligraphy from artists of various walks of life. Guests also had the opportunity to experience calligraphy for themselves, under guidance of teachers from KEIBOKU calligraphy school.

The exhibition was held at JCC from 19 - 26 July 2025.
