The JET Orientation & Farewell Reception for the 2023 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants from Singapore was held on 13 July 2023. The JET Programme began in 1987 to promote grassroots exchanges between Japan and other countries, and it is one of the world’s largest international exchange programmes. It aims to enhance foreign language education, and promote international exchange at the local level in Japan, through the fostering of ties between Japanese and foreign youths.

This year there will be 21 Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs; assisting English Language classes) and 2 Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs; assisting local government offices in international exchange activities at the local level) from Singapore. The new JET participants had a very fruitful interaction with guests from J.CLAIR Singapore and related prefectures, NUS Centre for Language Studies and the Japanese School Singapore, to prepare for their life in Japan. We hope that all of them will have a wonderful and enriching experience in Japan!
