JET Farewell & Orientation Event

The Embassy of Japan in Singapore held a physical Farewell and Orientation Event for the newly appointed participants of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme on Friday, 22 July 2022 at the Japan Creative Centre (JCC). His Excellency Ambassador Jun Yamazaki attended the event and congratulated the 16 new JETs from Singapore who will be joining the Programme this year.

Since its inception in 1987, the JET programme has made significant contributions towards the goal of connecting the grassroots people of Japan with people of other countries. Today, with over 50 participating countries, the JET programme is widely recognised as one of the most successful initiatives by Japan in the area of people-to-people exchange. This programme has fostered countless close ties between the people in the local Japanese communities and the overseas participants.

Thus far, more than 460 Singaporeans have taken part in this programme. Each and every person is important as they carry with him or her the “Singaporeness” when they meet the people in Japan and will bring back a flavor of Japan when they return to Singapore. This personal and human touch is very important. We are also truly grateful to the many JET returnees who have assisted numerous JCC related activities. These people-to-people exchanges are key in strengthening the friendly relations between Japan and Singapore.

We wish all the Singaporean JETs an exciting and rewarding journey in Japan!
