On 6th July 2019, our popular annual Yukata Workshop was held at Japan Creative Centre (JCC) in collaboration with JETAA Singapore (JET Alumni Association Singapore). Led once again by Ms Nathalie Ng, guests were taught the history and origins of yukata and about yukata fashion trends. Ms Nathalie, who along with several volunteers from JETAA Singapore dressed in beautiful yukata, showed off various accessories, footwear, and obi styles.

With the help of two volunteers from the audience, Ms Nathalie also explained step by step how women and men should put on yukata. After the presentation, there was a hands-on session where everyone had the chance to try on a yukata. Volunteers from JETAA Singapore taught the participants in small groups and guided them so that they were able to put on the yukata and tie the obi themselves.
As it is JETAA Singapore’s 10th Anniversary this year, there were some photographs taken by the members on display at the workshop. These photographs feature some of the members modelling their yukata in a HDB estate, promoting Japanese culture in Singapore.
