The opening ceremony of Re-imagining Ishikawa’s Traditional Crafts Exhibition was held at JCC (Japan Creative Centre) on Wednesday, 19th July 2017. The exhibition showcases how Ishikawa’s traditional craftsmen adapt their craft in the modern era, while continuing to showcase their refined skills. There were also display panels, which introduce Ishikawa’s traditional dance culture, so as to share the depth and richness of Ishikawa culture. This is the third exhibition featuring Ishikawa Prefecture, that has been showcased at JCC.

H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda, commenced the opening by welcoming over 90 guests from diverse fields who graced the ceremony, including the Ishikawa Prefecture traditional craftsmen. Mr Masanori Tanimoto, Governor of the Ishikawa Prefecture, was also present to give his welcome remarks.
Following which, there was a beautiful traditional Buyo dance by Geigi from Kanazawa City, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture. Within Kanazawa, there are 45 geishas (known as Geigi in Kanazawa) who still actively keep their art flourishing, making Kanazawa one of the most historically well-preserved Geisha districts in Japan. The audience was captivated by the three charming and exquisite performances.
