On 15 March, JCC hosted the Orientation and Send-Off Reception for the successfully selected recipients of MEXT Scholarship, who will be embarking on an exciting academic journey in Japan next month. MEXT, which stands for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, has awarded scholarships to 13 students from Singapore at both undergraduate and research levels this year.

The event was graced by esteemed representatives from the Public Service Division of the Prime Minister’s Office, Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Singapore-JCCI, and JUGAS (Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore). Ms Shao Shan from JUGAS shared about her experience while studying in Japan and gave valuable advice to the new MEXT scholars regarding life in Japan. Ms Ringo Lee, Coordinator of JCCI Singapore Foundation, shared about JCCI Singapore and the JCCI Singapore Foundation’s activities in promoting Japanese businesses and funding Japanese cultural events in Singapore, as well as the advantages of working with Japanese firms.

Their presentations were followed by self-introductions of the scholars and the orientation by First Secretary Mr Aihara Yuko. The ceremony concluded with a kanpai led by JCC Director Ms Kawabe Akiko after which, the celebrations continued with a light reception and networking session, with the scholars bustling excitedly whilst looking forward to their next few years in Japan.

Congratulations to all the MEXT scholars and we wish you all the best in your studies in Japan!
