JCC (Japan Creative Centre) was very delighted to have A/Prof Fabian Lim Chin Leong, Assistant Dean for Research, from Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University to share with us his vast knowledge about Japanese martial arts during a lecture and demonstration entitled Development & Current Landscape of Judo in Singapore: Our History, Present & Future held at our centre on the evening of Friday, 24th March 2017.

A/Prof Fabian Lim covered intriguing details about the history and origins of Judo, which came about by combining Jujitsu – a form of Japanese wrestling – with mental discipline, as well as how it spread throughout the world and eventually became an Olympics sports after 1964. The development and current landscape of Judo in Singapore was also shared by A/Prof Fabian Lim, such as local Judo practitioners, then part of Malaysia participating in the first ever Olympics Judo competition, the various Judo techniques and the future development of the sport in Singapore as well as the region.
