1.3 Maki-E Art Showcase

From the 20th to the 22nd of August, JCC hosted the ‘Maki-e Showcase’ in Japan Creative Centre. This showcase was co-organized by Pilot Singapore.

An opening Ceremony which was held on the evening of the 20th of August, officially opened the showcase.

H.E Haruhisa Takeuchi gave his remarks and expressed his delight to witness the showcase of such exquisite works. In his remarks, H.E. Takeuchi also warmly welcomed Minister of State, Prime Minister’s office Mr Sam Tan to the event. Mr Tan said a few words and mentioned that he too owned a couple of Namiki Pens of which he is a fan of Mr Tan Chin Huat, MD of Pilot Spore also said a few words during the occasion.

The showcase displayed a total of 13 exclusive pens from various commemorative series and even included a pair of pens from Namiki's 'Hina Dolls Limited Edition’ set which haven’t officially been launched for public viewing. Guests to the Japan Creative Centre throughout the three days were lucky to be the first people to view the pens which have never been exhibited before. ‘Maki-e Showcase’ also featured an area where various types of Pilot fountain pens were displayed for guests to try out.

Following the opening ceremony, Pilot Corporation’s Nibs specialist Mr Atsushi Takizawa gave a talk on Namiki pens as well including a brief summary on the different pens on display. Mr Takizawa also described the different types of fountain pens and the nibs that are used for writing. Amongst the guests in attendance for the talk were writers, collectors of fountain pens and members from the fountain pen society of Singapore.

Throughout the 3 days, a video taken during the opening ceremony and Talk by Mr Takizawa was played to give those not in attendance a glimpse of what happened. In addition, a video showing the ways in which Urushi Art was etched onto the pens was played. Most viewers who attended the showcase expressed the magnificence of the intricate designs on the pen with some even mentioning that they would like to purchase the pens.
