"Beauty Of Japanese Dance" By Master Guraku AKIFUSA
On the 20th of January, JCC welcomed Master Guraku Akifusa from Japan for a lecture and demonstration entitled “The beauty of Japanese dance 舞 ”.
Master Guraku Akifusa was born in Tokyo Japan in 1974. He started learning Nihon Buyo from his mother when he was 5 years old. He received his master title as Wakayagi ryu when he was 25 years old. 30th JCC Cinema "The
KOMANEKO Series"
On 31st January 2015, JCC held its 30th cinema session featuring two films from the KOMANEKO series, entitled "Komadori Eiga Komaneko" and "Komaneko No Christmas: Maigoni Natta Present". Tokyo High School Baseball Federation's Visit to JCC
On the 26th December 2014, Tokyo high school baseball federation visited JCC. They came to Singapore to play baseball game with Singapore baseball team and to make good relationship between Singapore and Japan in baseball. In this visit, Minister Tsutsumi made the welcome speech and Mr.Kawabata, 2nd Secretary also made the presentation about basic information of Singapore and the activities of the Embassy and JCC.

On the 9th January 2015, Students from Gonohe Town Aomori Prefecture in Japan visited JCC. In this visit, Director of JCC Ms Misako Ito gave her welcoming speech while Mr.Kawabata, 2nd Secretary made a presentation about basic information of Singapore and the activities of Embassy of Japan in Singapore. 2010 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi's Visit to Ambassador's Residence
On 27th January 2015, the dinner with Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi, 2010 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry by HE Haruhisa Takeuchi, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore and Madame Takeuchi was held at the Ambassador’s residence. Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research on palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in organic synthesis which is being widely used as a technology that drastically accelerates organic synthesis reactivity.
Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi came to Singapore in order to make the keynote speech at A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) on 28th January by the invitation of International Peace Foundation. In this dinner, Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi and Madame Negishi, H.E. Mr S.R. Nathan, Former President of Singapore, Mr Lim Chuan Poh, Chairman, A*Star, Prof Low Teck Seng, CEO, National Research Foundation and Madame Low, H.E. Mr Kirk Wagar, Ambassador of USA in Sinapore and Madame Wagar, Mr Uwe Morawetz, Chairman, International Peace Foundation, Mr Daniel Bednarik, Director of Events Coordination of the International Peace Foundation were invited. |

Japanese High Speed Rail Exhibition at MBS
On 23rd-24th January 2015, Japanese High Speed Rail Exhibition was held at MBS, hosted by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS),Japan Overseas Rolling Stock Association (JORSA) ,Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).
Railways, especially the High Speed Rail (HSR), have attracted worldwide attention as a form of environmentally friendly mass transportation system. HSR projects have been carried out in some countries, while plans for their construction are underway in many others, including Singapore. The purpose of this exhibition is to demonstrate how Japan’s 50 years of experiences in HSR operation can contribute to the development of HSR projects in Singapore and to enhance partnership in railway fields between Singapore and Japan.
From 26th January to Mid March 2015 JCC is exhibiting the panels on the Japanese High Speed Rail (See the left photo). Inauguration of the Executive Committee For the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations(SJ50)
In the Year 2016, Japan and Singapore will mark the 50th Anniversary of its diplomatic relations. To successfully celebrate this memorable year with the people of Japan and Singapore, on 27th January 2015, we have inaugurated the Executive Committee for the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations under the chairmanship of H.E. Haruhisa Takeuchi, the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore.
The Executive Committee is comprised of various organizations that have been actively promoting Japan-Singapore friendship,including the Japanese Association, Singapore, Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Singapore (JCCI), the Japanese Cultural Society, Singapore (JCS), the Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS) and more. The Executive Committee will carry forward the examination for concrete activities and projects that would promote exchange and friendship in a variety of fields, as well as deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Singapore.
Celebrating this memorable year with as many people, the Executive Committee is planning to set up a framework to acknowledge your activities/initiatives as a part of the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Projects. |

JST- A*STAR Joint Workshop
On 12th of January 2015, JST-A*STAR Joint Workshop “Development of Fundamental Technology for Biodevices Enabling Dynamic Analysis and Control of Cells” was held in Exploration Theatrette, Matrix Level 4 at the Biopolis before the launch of the third joint grant call by both parties. It was held based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) concluded in October 2014.
In the beginning of this WS, A/Prof Dr Tan Sze Wee (Deputy Executive Director of the Biomedical Research Council) and Dr Shoichiro Tonomura (Executive Director of JST) made the welcome speeches followed by keynote speeches by Prof Jackie Ying (Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, A*STAR) and Prof Shin’ichi Ishiwata (Waseda University/WABIOS) .
In this WS, the participants discussed their most updated research outcomes and possible collaboration in 3 sessions ((1) Nanodevices for Cell Systems,(2) Biomaterials and Biocompatibility in Biodevices, (3) Reconstitution of Cell Dynamics or Biomolecular Networks In vitro/In silico.
On 13th of January 2015, excursion lab tour to the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, A*STAR was coordinated for Japanese researchers.

"Asia Science and Technology Portal (ASTP)" provides you with a comprehensive single access point to information on useful science and technology-related websites in ASEAN countries, as well as Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.
ASTP is designed to promote international research collaboration and researcher mobility among Asian countries by providing access to timely and relevant information in the region. Mobilizing STI capacity among Asian countries and enhancing researcher networking will help each country better cope with many challenges of sustainable economies in Asia. Building upon this vision, the Portal features a broad range of up-to-date and practical information including R&D funding, R&D related job vacancies, international meetings and relevant articles.
ASTP is a proposal by the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan (CAO). In accordance with the planning by CAO, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is taking on the role of developing and maintaining the website. CAO is calling for active cooperation by each country in the region, which will be of vital importance to make this portal more informative and relevant. |

The Energy White Paper is a report submitted to the Diet annually based on Article 11 of the Basic Act on Energy Policy outlining energy measures taken during the previous fiscal year.In addition to the routine topics explained every year (energy trends and measures taken during the previous fiscal year concerning energy supply and demand), the Energy White Paper 2014 seeks to deepen public understanding by explaining various energy-related problems with data and information based on the Strategic Energy Plan decided upon at the April 11, 2014 Cabinet meeting.
