DOMESTIC HELPER ACCOMPANYING EMPLOYER FOR LONG-TERM STAY BEYOND 90 DAYS |
A domestic helper holding a valid Singapore work permit who is required to accompany her employer for long-term stay in Japan, for example, to take care of her employer's child(ren) during her employer's 3-year work re-assignment there, can apply for a long-term visa. Please take note that application for any type of Japanese long-term visa is a 2-step process. Step 1 is the application for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) at a . The application for a visa (Step 2) will happen only AFTER the issuance of the certificate. Since the application of COE can only be done in Japan, this is usually accomplished by a proxy such as the company which the employer will be working for in Japan. The process of COE application (Step 1) typically takes 2 to 3 months following an application made by the proxy. Once the application for COE is approved, the original certificate will be issued to the proxy in Japan by the immigration authority. The proxy having received the certificate, should forward it to the applicant in Singapore so as to facilitate his/her visa application (Step 2) at the Embassy of Japan in Singapore.
