| ABOUT JAPANESE BOARD ON BOOKS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (JBBY) |
Founded in 1974, the Japanese Board on Books for Young People (JBBY) is the Japanese national section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), a global non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing books and children together. In addition to representing Japan at IBBY World Congresses and supporting IBBY initiatives, JBBY promotes children's literature through lectures, book recommendations, book donations for children in challenging circumstances, and the publication of a quarterly magazine in Japan.
JBBY is supported by around 530 individual members — including writers, illustrators, translators, editors, librarians and readers — and about 50 corporate members, all contributing to its mission. Next year, Japan will host the 2027 IBBY Asia-Pacific Regional Congress in Tokyo under the theme “Connecting the World through Books.” The theme reflects IBBY's vision of fostering understanding across borders by encouraging people to encounter diverse cultures, histories, and perspectives through children's books, as well as to recognise and respect differences of the world.
