The Japan Creative Centre invites you to join us at our inaugural JCC film screening and creative session. As part of JCC's creative program, we will be screening exciting Japanese movies at the end of every month. The screening will then be followed by an informative sharing session where guest speakers will share their thoughts and insights on all things Japan! So do come join us at our first session of this exciting new activity at the Japan Creative Centre!


About The First Screening:

Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, SUMMER WARS (released 2009) is a not to be missed by fans of Japanese anime and pop art. Winner of the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the year in 2010, the movie features stunning visuals and a powerful storyline touching on the Japanese spirit of resilence and tenacity in the face of adversity, SUMMER WARS promises to be one movie you wouldn't want to miss!

We are also honoured to have Associate Professor Lim Beng Choo from the NUS Department of Japanese Studies to share with us her thoughts on Japanese film and anime.

Film Synopsis Summer Wars (released in August 2009)
Kenji Koiso, a high school math genius who has a secret crush on his senior Natsuki Shinohara agrees to accompany her back to her hometown not knowing what he is in for. Meeting her grandmother, a matriarch of the Shinohara family and descendant of Jinnouchi clan, Kenji is introduced, to his shock as her "fiance". Barely able to get out of the situation, Kenji is quickly thrust into a cyber war of unimaginable proportions as he battles against "Love Machine", a computer virus to regain control of OZ, a cyber world that has control over every aspect of our daily lives from traffic networks to communications. Will Kenji survive this battle of a lifetime and will he win the heart of the girl of his dreams?
