
Japan Creative Centre (JCC), in collaboration with Singapore Science Centre, is pleased to present "Space, Science and Technology Seminar" by space technology experts Prof. Takashi Kubota and Dr. Shinichi Sobue from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). They are visiting Singapore in conjunction with the eighteenth Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-18) and they will hold a seminar on Japan's space exploration and use of satellite technology.

Prof. Kubota, one of the researchers involved in the mission of spacecraft HAYABUSA, will speak on the significance of the mission, how space exploration benefits humankind, and share his views on the future of space exploration. This special lecture gives the audience the outline of HAYABUSA mission and the reasons why HAYABUSA succeeded in the first sample return mission in the world.

Dr. Sobue, who has been long involved in earth observation satellite programs and was a member of the KAGUYA (SELENE) project for lunar exploration, is now back in the earth observation field as a planning manager. He will speak on space-based earth observation and the use of satellite technology in addressing various economic and social problems, including climate change mitigation.

PROFILE OF TAKASHI KUBOTA
Prof. Takashi Kubota was one of the researchers involved in the mission of spacecraft HAYABUSA, which travelled 2 billion km in space to reach Asteroid “ITOKAWA” and perform touchdowns and collect samples from the surface automatically. He is currently a researcher at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), JAXA.
PROFILE OF SHINICHI SOBUE
Mr. Sobue worked on institutional information systems in JAXA between 2003 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he joined the SELENE project to manage the SELENE ground system as well as data promotion. In 2008, after successfully completing the SELENE project, he re-joined the earth observation mission and now works as Planning Manager of Earth Observation Research Center (EROC).
