The Japan Information and Culture Section (JICS) functions as the cultural and public affairs section of the Embassy of Japan in Singapore. Our library has a wide range of resources such as publications, artefacts as well as audio-visual materials on Japan. Resources are available as free loans to the public. Besides its basic function, JICS also promotes better understanding of Japan and the Japanese culture by providing a wide range of information, educational services and programs to the people of Singapore. For qualified Singapore citizens who are interested in taking up Japanese governmental scholarships or participating in one of the several exchange programmes, JICS also facilitates coordination of these programmes, and provide the necessary counselling.




Five categories of Monbukagakusho Scholarships are available from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) for eligible Singaporean citizens.




The Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme aims at promoting exchanges between the youths of Japan and East Asia.




The Japan Foundation offers grants for arts-related exchanges, Japanese language education, Japanese Studies research, etc.




The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange between Japanese youths and foreign youths. Participants are placed in public schools in Japan to teach English.
